Responsibility
We don't just talk about it, we act.
Why Sustainability?
"We did not inherit the earth from our parents, but borrowed it from our children."
(Ancient wisdom of Native Americans)
A small contribution
We believe that even a certain number of small businesses like our leather manufacturer can make a difference if they consistently demonstrate climate protection and social responsibility. Therefore, we want to do our part—no matter how small it may seem!
By handcrafting durable products from locally sourced , vegetable-tanned leather, we aim to contribute to reducing the demand for more climate-damaging products in the long term and raising awareness of the value of local craftsmanship.
We have children, and perhaps one day they will have children of their own. And if everyone today manages their economy to maximize profits, future generations will no longer find an intact ecosystem.
Therefore, we are primarily committed to climate protection in order to make a small contribution to the sustainability of our planet. Here, we describe the operational measures we have implemented as transparently as possible.

Sustainable
Product design
We design and test each of our products ourselves. We set high standards for sustainability. Only designs that demonstrate the potential for long-term use make it to product maturity.
Our passion for natural materials, local craftsmanship and longevity runs through our entire product range.
We don't mass-produce. All orders are made to order. This avoids rejects and waste and keeps energy consumption as low as possible.

Tested
Material origin
When purchasing materials, we pay attention to the manufacturing process and the regional origin of the raw materials. This is where we have a significant influence on the ecological footprint of our final products.
We are aware that not all leather is created equal – we have studied this very closely and are happy to share all the facts about our purely vegetable-tanned leather.

Production
Local handcraft
We craft every product locally in Munich, using our own hands. Outsourcing production to low-wage countries is just as out of the question for us as more energy-intensive machine production.
From the very beginning, careful craftsmanship has been one of the unique selling points of our family business. This – along with the quality of the materials used and our customer service – is what has earned us the most positive customer reviews!

recycling
Packaging
Packaging materials are necessary in online retail, of course. However, we use as little material as possible and ensure that only recycled and recyclable materials are used.
We package almost all items in reusable bags made of organic cotton or recycled tissue paper. Our parcel boxes and shipping cartons are made of recycled cardboard. Inserts are produced by the Saxoprint printing company in Dresden using climate-neutral recycled paper, certified by the Munich-based provider ClimatePartner.

Logistics
Shipment
The transport route is one of the most criticized aspects of online retail. Therefore, we place great emphasis on low emissions during delivery and ensure minimal return rates through maximum transparency.
We deliver all shipments to our logistics partner DHL in a zero-emissions manner – thanks to short walking and cycling routes. The resulting emissions are then offset through DHL GoGreen .

Environmental protection
1% For The Planet
We are a member of the global initiative 1% For The Planet.
In 2002, Patagonia founder Yvon Chouinard and Craig Mathews, founder of Blue Ribbon Flies, launched the initiative, kickstarting a global movement with a huge impact. Learn more about the mission here .
Almost 5,000 members from over 100 countries have now invested over $700 million in certified environmental protection projects through their donations.
We are proud to be a small part of this – and you make this possible with every purchase in our shop!

Climate protection
Tree donations
From the very beginning, we have supported the Plant-for-the-Planet initiative in its goal of planting 1 trillion trees worldwide to contribute to climate protection. Trees are undoubtedly an important component in capturing CO2 when planted and cared for with foresight.
For the first few years of business, we fulfilled our promise "We plant a tree every day" every year on April 25th, International Tree Day . To this end, we funded a tree donation from the sales proceeds of your orders.
We have now increased our commitment to climate protection and donate 1 percent of our total sales revenue to climate protection projects every year, see section 1% For The Planet .
Perhaps you'd like to plant trees yourself (or have them planted)? There are currently about 3 trillion trees growing on Earth, and it could support about 1 trillion more.

Qualification
Bavarian climate pact
Environmentally conscious economic activity to preserve our natural resources – this is what the participants in the Bavarian Environmental and Climate Pact are committed to.
The program has been in existence since 1995. Participating companies must re-qualify every three years.
We have been certified participants since 2017 and have requalified several times through voluntary environmental protection services. We intend to requalify for participation again during the next renewal period.
Would you like to learn more about our participation criteria and the specific operational measures we implement? Search the participant database for "LederGlück Manufaktur" and then click on our entry on the map!
